Morning:
Meet at the Atlanta Bread Company in Sandy Springs. We will
carpool from there to Raven Cliff Falls in White County near
Helen and Robertstown in the North Georgia mountains.
The
Raven Cliffs Trail is located in the Chattahoochee National
Forest where it twists for 2 ½ miles (5 miles round trip)
around several waterfalls, including one of the most unusual
falls in the world where water pours out of a crevice in a the
face of a massive cliff about 90 feet high. Behind
the crevice, the water drops approximately 60 feet and then
rushes through the rock face and drops 20 feet into a deep pool.
The water
then cascades 20 more feet to Dodd Creek. Three other waterfalls
may be found on Dodd Creek. The largest is located downstream
from Raven Cliff Falls and measures 70 feet. The area offers
excellent opportunities for day hiking. This
is an easy to moderate hiking trail. We will return to Atlanta
Saturday evening.
Location:
The Atlanta Bread Company in Dunwoody is located at Perimeter
Pointe Shopping Center, 1155 Mount Vernon Hwy, Suite 1200 (Next
to Regal 10 Cinemas), Atlanta, GA 30338.

Both
stars of their Bavarian high school rowing team, Tobi and
Achim are inseparable best friends looking forward to a
camping trip centered around a summer rowing competition.
Things are a bit complicated though…Tobi has a secret
crush on Achim, and can’t stand that he only has eyes for
the girl across the lake. And, to add more pressure to the
already-confused Tobi, the competitor team turns out to be a
very “out” all gay team called the Queerstrokes - a
mixed bag of macho and flamboyant teenage gay athletes.
Tobi’s team feel’s very insecure about having these
“gay boys” in camp and do everything possible to avoid
them. But, sexual tensions grow amongst the teenagers, and
Tobi becomes torn between his “love” for Achim and the
crush he develops on one of the cute guys in Queerstrokes.
Drama and teen angst reaches its climax during a summer
storm, symbolizing the pain and excitement of first love and
changing the lives of everyone in its path.

Movie
Screening & Dinner
First Descent
Regal Cinemas Atlantic Stadium 16
Atlantic
Station - West
Midtown Atlanta |

|
|
|
Before
movie:
We will will meet in front of the Regal Cinemas Atlantic
Stadium 16 before the
FREE Advance Screening of the new movie, First
Descent: The Story of the Snowboarding
Revolution. Visit the website to learn more about the
movie and view the trailer. You need to arrive early as the number of tickets
distributed exceeds the seating capacity of the theatre.
The movie starts at [see eNewsletter] but we will be inside before then. We
will try to be out front until about [see eNewsletter] unless the
theatre is full before that time.
This
movie shows real snowboarding like you have never seen
before without stunt doubles or special effects. There is
snowboarding from mountains only accessible by helicopter
and down a mountain with an avalanche coming behind the
boarder.
First
Descent chronicles the rebellious, inspiring and sometimes controversial rise of snowboarding—as seen
through the eyes of the snowboarders setting the standards
and breaking the boundaries of this worldwide phenomenon.
First
Descent spotlights a handful of snowboarding's early
pioneers (including Shawn Farmer, Nick Perata and Terje
Haakonsen) and some of the superstar phenoms at
snowboarding's current cutting edge (Shaun White and
Hannah Teter) and literally takes
them to the edge-the snow blanketed mountains of
Alaska—where these five icons face some of the most
challenging natural terrain on the planet. The five come
for different reasons — Perata and Farmer to see if they still have what it
takes, Haakonsen to add another credit to a Big Mountain resume
and White and Teter to undertake their first Big Mountain riding ever.
Leading
up to a first descent, the crew of five share their
stories, comparing their viewpoints, individual
lifestyles, and unedited opinions of the evolution of
snowboarding that began as a delinquent child of skiing
and now stands as an international cultural movement that
has permanently changed the face of winter sports.
The
movie spans the snowboarding revolution of the 80s and
90s, expresses real-life accounts from both notorious and
famed riders, and provides dramatic scenes from the
biggest winter contest and backcountry experiences.
First Descent creates a fast-paced portrait of a sport
that has quickly evolved from a fringe hobby to a
full-fledged global event.
After the
screening: We will go to a nearby restaurant for eats, drinks
and socializing.
Location:
The Regal Cinemas Atlantic Stadium 16 is located at Atlanta
